The Gospel is the good news of salvation whereby God delivers men from sin and death.

But to understand the Gospel, we need to start from the beginning:

  • God is the loving ruler of the world. He made the world and made man to rule the world under Him.

Revelation 4:11: Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.

  • However, we all reject God as our ruler by trying to live life our own way without Him. Yet in doing so, we fail to truly rule ourselves or society or the world.

Romans 3:10-12:  As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

  • God will not let us rebel forever. God’s punishment for rebellion is death and judgment.

Hebrews 9:27: And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.

  • Because of His love, God sent His Son into the world: The Man Jesus Christ. Jesus always lived under God’s rule but died in our place to take our punishment and bring forgiveness.

1 Peter 3:18: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, God raised Jesus to life again as the ruler of the world. In so doing, Jesus conquered death. He now gives new life, but will also return to judge.

1 Peter 1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

  • We now all have a choice in this life between two ways to live: (1) continue to reject God as ruler and try to live our life our own way, but be condemned by God and face death and judgment in the end or (2) acknowledge that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins and submit to Him as our ruler, relying on His sacrificial death and resurrection as the only source of our forgiveness and eternal life. It is one or the other, there is no other option.

John 3:36: Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

The Gospel is the good news of salvation whereby God delivers men from sin and death.  That deliverance comes through faith and repentance. Faith is believing in Jesus Christ as our Savior for the forgiveness of our sins and eternal life with God and repentance is a genuine heartfelt sorrow for sin, a rejection of it, a turning from it and a commitment to live in obedience to Jesus Christ as our Lord.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
